AASA (American School Superintendents Association)

AASA is the premier association for over 10,000 school system leaders and serves as the national voice for public education and district leadership in the United States of America.  The mission of the American School Superintendents Association advocates for equitable access for all students to the highest quality public education, and develops and supports school system leaders.

AASA develops and supports school system leaders through the national exchange of ideas; access to professional learning, publications, and resources; and opportunities to champion initiatives to help transform the future of public education. Recent activities include:
  • Learning 2025: A National Commission on Student-Centered, Equity-Focused Education (April 2021)
The Learning 2025: National Commission on Student-Centered, Equity-Focused Education—a collective of
thought leaders in education, business, community, and philanthropy was convened by AASA, The School
Superintendents Association. The report calls for holistic redesign of the public school system by 2025.
The COVID-19 pandemic has served as a forcing function. It has exposed the severity of systemic inequities
and injustices that impact Americans and jeopardize the very core of our republic. It has also presented an
opportunity to finally reshape schools to meet ALL Whole Learner needs for optimized achievement.
  • AASA Selected Districts Exemplify AASA’s Learning 2025 Commission Initiative
The selected designates are members of AASA’s Learning 2025 Network, a cadre of more than 120 demonstration systems representing forward-leaning, urban, suburban and rural school districts engaged in learning, networking and working together to help drive education policy and ultimately improve student learning. Earlier this year, 13 districts were named “Lighthouse” designates. The goal of the network, which was created by the AASA National Commission on Student-Centered, Equity-Focused Education, is to guide Learning 2025 leaders as they chart their progress toward “Lighthouse” designation in one or more areas of growth. The commission called for identification of exemplary educational systems to serve as beacons of light in key areas of holistic redesign of American education.
  • AASA Has Published several Advocacy & Policy Resources on Transforming School Systems
These include items such as using data effectively, educator shortages, poverty indicators,  equitable online connectivity, student learning recovery & redesign
