IAC (International Association for Counselling)
The International Association for Counselling (IAC) is the world body for the counselling profession. Established in 1966, IAC's humanitarian movement advances the development of counselling in order to improve people’s lives and well-being. Our association and members strive for human rights and the inclusive, sustainable development of our profession through the promotion of counselling, best practice and international cooperation.
IAC recognizes that going into 2023, many countries and people are at a time of unprecedented strain. As a global community of counsellors IAC believes that it is crucial that we work towards the IAC vision of “a world where counselling is available to all”. Through our strategy, we have committed IAC to playing our part in advancing the field of counselling worldwide and promoting health, well-being, respect, social justice and peace. School counselling is one focus for the Association as part of a broader vision of counselling in a variety of settings and addressing a variety of issues.
Through the sponsorship of over thirty consultations, seminars and conferences and through publishing the results of these exchanges as well as its regional structures, IAC has played a significant role in the development of counselling services in many parts of the world. - the IAC World Mapping of the Counselling Profession project will conduct fact-finding research about the status of the profession, in each country,
- IAC co-sponsored a virtual conference in December 2022 focusing on mental health. Discussions highlighted an international perspective on topics such as counseling professionalization efforts and the state of mental health worldwide, mental health needs of and responses to international students and immigrants, as well as the challenges that helping professionals in other countries face.
